How to wax G-1000

It is easy to strengthen the impregnaton with Fjällräven´s environmentally friendly Greenland Wax and make clothes almost 100% waterproof. The high-strength fabric wicks moisture effectively away from the body and is ideal for an active outdoor life.

G-1000® is a classic in Fjällräven’s clothes. The densely woven fabric is a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton, making the material windproof and extremely hardwearing. With the application of an environmentally friendly Greenland Wax, the material also becomes water and dirt repellent.

Fjällrävens environmentally friendly Greenland Wax is used in all our G-1000 products. Over time the wax becomes worn and the hydrophobic effect is reduced. But with the help of Greenland wax, you can easily impregnate your G-1000 clothing itself, thereby improving the impregnation.

Regular impregnation gives you a durable garment that may be inherited generation after generation.

Why Greenland Wax?

Greenland Wax impregnation makes G-1000 garments outstandingly resistant to rain, moisture and dirt. This means that they are fine to wear during brief showers, and even if the fabric does get wet it will dry quickly.

How to wax G-1000

Waxing a G-1000 garment requires two steps, application and heating.

1. Take a block of Greenland Wax and rub it into the garment where you want to improve the impregnation. Apply the wax generously.

2. Use a hairdryer, iron or dryer, and heat the garment until the wax melts and sinks into the fabric.

Tips! If you want to make the garment even more waterproof, repeat the process several times instead of applying a single thick layer.

Wax in the field

It is also easy to improve the impregnation of your garment when outdoors.

Take a block of Greenland Wax and rub it into the garment where you want to improve the impregnation. Apply the wax generously.

Hold the garment several decimeters over a steady strong flame from your camping stove. Do not hold the garment so close that it could catch fire and ake the garment off before heating it. Hold only the garment over the flame and move it back and forth until the wax melts.

Wash out the wax

The wax can be washed out of clothing, which is practical when in warm and humid areas. Without the wax, the fabric becomes cool and its breathability is maximized.

You can easily wash out the wax with help from your washing machine.
