High-quality, down padded products provide unsurpassed insulation in relation to their low weight. Down can also be compressed to take up as little space as possible. The down padding in our products is in fact a mixture of down and feathers: 97/3 means the padding is 97% down and 3% feathers. The higher the percentage of down, the better the quality and insulation.
The down’s ability to swell and fill the channels in, for example, a sleeping bag is measured in CUIN (cubic inches per ounce) but is also known as fill power. A higher CUIN value means better insulation, i.e. a better ability to bind air. A value of 700+ states the minimum value, but the actual quality is often higher.
