Safety

Remember Mountain trekking places considerable demands on your own sense of responsibility. Do not start the trek if you have back or knee problems or any other complications since the race can be very stressful for the body. Also remember to be completely rested before driving home after the race. We recommend at least eight hours of sleep before driving a car.

During the race

In spite of the fact that we will have staff along the trail at all checkpoints, you still need to manage on your own most of the time. Don’t take any unnecessary risks. Stop when you are tired, eat when you are hungry, and drink at regular intervals from the numerous mountain streams along the way. Do not cook any food inside your tent, but rather handle all food preparation outside.

The major part of the route has no cell phone coverage and no access for land vehicles. In case of an injury or disease you have to contact the officials at a checkpoint. The event organisation is not responsible to check every participants position along the route. In the case of an incident the participants have to contact the organiser. Generally there will be no organized search for people who have not reached the finish.

Health care

All checkpoints are manned with officials trained in first aid and equipped with first aid articles. The offcials may contact the event office in Abisko in cases related to medical care or in need of evacuation by helicopter.

Good to bring along

You don’t need the very latest in the way of outdoor equipment, but all trekkers must make sure they have warm sweaters, hats, mittens and a warm sleeping bag in their backpacks.

You should also have a first aid kit that includes an elastic bandage, plasters, blister tape/plasters and any personal medication, painkillers, etc., if needed.

Abandon the walk

If you decide to abandon the walk you still have to walk to Abisko or return to Nikkaluokta. If you decide to return, please contact an official at a checkpoint or call the contact phone number at +46 (0)73 832 41 20 In the case of injury or disease helicopter evacuation is possible, please contact a checkpoint. The organiser reserves the right to charge an evacuation according to the current price list (1 500-5 000 SEK/person). In the case of emergency, call 112 (SOS Alarm).

The organiser will have officials in Nikkaluokta the days after start. Participitants returning to Nikkaluokta may contact the officials. They have possibilities to arrange with transport of luggage from Abisko to Nikkaluokta. Two transports of luggage will depart each day, thus your luggage may arrive the following day.
