After a Swedish expedition to Greenland in 1966, it became obvious that the selection of outdoor clothing was much too limited.
Using a specially developed tent fabric that had proven itself to be too heavy for his lightweight tent, Fjällräven’s founder, Åke Nordin, sewed together a climbing jacket – the first Fjällräven garment.
The very first G-1000 jacket.
After adding a mixture of beeswax and paraffin, the fabric turned out to be perfect for functional outdoor clothing.
It was named G-1000 after the Greenland Expedition and the wax was called Greenland Wax. Since its inception, G-1000 has demonstrated its strength on countless adventures across the globe.
Durable and versatile
G-1000 is Fjällräven’s own durable and versatile fabric, a proven outdoor classic that keeps you ready for any type of adventure at any time of the year.
The tightly woven fabric is made from 65% polyester and 35% cotton and has been waxed with natural Greenland Wax. This combination makes G-1000 extremely durable, highly breathable and also wind and water resistant.
G-1000 is also mosquito-safe and offers protection from the sun’s alpha and beta rays. This means that you can discover the beauty of nature without any distractions.
